Founder and Investing Partners
Former National Hockey League star Len Barrie founded Bear Mountain Resort in 2001. Other prominent NHL investors include former Calgary Flames Mike Vernon, former Florida Panthers Joe Nieuwendyk, Rob Niedermayer of the Anaheim Ducks, Ray Whitney of the Carolina Hurricanes and Ryan Smyth of the Colorado Avalanche.

Bear Mountain Golf & Country Club
Bear Mountain Resort is home to the first and only Nicklaus co-designed course on Vancouver Island and, with the completion of the Valley Course, Canada's only 36-hole Nicklaus-designed resort.
The Jack and Steve Nicklaus co-designed Mountain Course is an 18-hole, 7,083 yard, par-71 course that features a 19th betting hole.
The Nicklaus Design Valley Course an 18-hole, 6,807 yard, par-71 course.
The Club will issue a maximum 475 memberships for access to the Mountain Course. Upon completion of the Valley Course, the limit will increase to 800 memberships.
Member services include bag drop and cleaning, lockers, golf carts equipped with GPS, British Columbia Golf Association membership and handicapping system, preferred guest rates and membership in the Jack Nicklaus International Golf Club, allowing for reciprocal rates at participating Nicklaus courses.
The Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort & Spa, Victoria:
The 160,000 square foot, six-story Clubhouse building features the second phase of The Westin Bear Mountain, offering 91 of the 156 guest rooms and one- and two-bedroom suites.
All rooms and suites feature The Westin's signature Heavenly Beds® and Heavenly Baths®, high-speed Internet, kitchenettes and a private balcony. The suites also feature a dining room area and separate living area with sofa bed.
Hotel rates range from $149 CAD for a guest room to $399 CAD for a two-bedroom suite per night.
The Clubhouse building houses the Santé Spa Bear Mountain, a 6,000 square foot conference facility (the largest available outside of downtown Victoria), luxurious private member locker rooms, an 800 square foot pro shop, and two dining options, the Copper Rock Grill, Panache, and the Masters Lounge.
The Mountainside Athletic Club (MAC):
The Mountainside Athletic Club (MAC) is the first athletic facility on Vancouver Island to offer state-of-the-art Paramount Fitness equipment and has more than 3,000 square feet of space devoted to fitness.
The MAC offers body composition testing and nutritional counseling; specialty programs for golfers, runners, swimmers and triathletes; a ladies-only gym; year-round outdoor-heated salt water pool; outdoor hot tub; fully equipped fitness studio with yoga, pilates, spinning and more; personal training; daycare services; and a juice bar.
Access to the MAC is included in the resort fee for Westin guests.
Membership to the MAC starts at $50 for your initiation fee with monthly dues of $75 and is not included in real estate purchases.
Santé Spa:
The Santé Spa Bear Mountain, affiliated with Calgary’s Institut de Santé - Canada’s leader in medical spas, is located in the Clubhouse and provides the highest standards in treatment administered by skilled therapists and medical professionals.
Santé Spa Bear Mountain was recognized as one of SpaFinder’s top ten medical spas in the world.
The 12,000 square foot spa includes a fully-landscaped terrace with nautilus-shaped mineral pool, deck and labyrinth; 12 treatment rooms including a duet room and VIP suite; Vichy shower system; manicure/pedicure and makeup stations; guest lounge with fireplace and terrace with food service; men’s and women’s change rooms with lockers, saunas and showers; and personalized “Living Better” lifestyle programs from Santé and MAC teams.
