Born in Hitchin, England, Ian Poulter turned professional in 1995 and earned his first victory at this level at the 1999 Ivory Coast Open. In 2000, during his first full season on the European Tour, Poulter won the Italian Open, and was appointed Rookie of the Year by Sir Henry Cotton.
In 2002, Poulter was unable to qualify for participation in the Ryder Cup, however, in 2004 he was an essential component of the European team’s victory, and was once again selected in 2008 to participate. In 2004, Poulter won the Volvo Masters tournament on the European Tour, a decisive moment in his career. Poulter moved into the top-10 of the Official World Golf Rankings in January, 2010 with a second place finish at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, and won his first tournament on U.S. soil in February at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona
As a member of both the PGA and European Tours, Poulter is especially celebrated for his unique and unusual personal style, which has earned him international notoriety over the last few years.
